Roseville Comic-Con shoppers, cosplayers take over @the Grounds

With over 100 vendors and a legion of masked cosplayers dressed in their most creative costumes, there was no shortage of sights at Roseville Comic-Con Swap Meet on Sunday.

Held inside the Roebbelen Center @the Grounds, the second annual Roseville Comic-Con Swap Meet offered fans a chance to let loose, support their favorite fandom and buy some awesome memorabilia all while social distancing.

For one enthusiastic guest, who goes by the moniker “MissMolly,” the opportunity to dress up as her favorite character from “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” was an aspect she didn’t want to miss. With an eye on buying memorabilia for her growing collection and engaging with the community, MissMolly said she relished the chance to be @the Grounds Sunday.

“This is just an opportunity to get out of the house, dress up and have fun,” MissMolly, who travelled from Redding, said. “It’s really fun to be a part of this community of people. And with everyone wearing these costumes, it’s just an opportunity to not be yourself for a few hours.”

In addition to the one-of-a-kind vendors, Roseville Comic-Con Swap Meet had the opportunity to provide guests a chance to safely meet some special guests. Along with the original Red Power Ranger Austin St John on site, special guests included: voice actress Leah Clark; actor Austin Tindle; and creator of THE WARREN HOPE Scott “Fuzzy” Joseph.

For Joe Deas, who has come to be known as “The Voice of Anime,” Sunday offered another opportunity to get back to “some sense of normal.” With @the Grounds hosting SacAnime Swap Meet last month, Roseville Comic-Con Swap Meet on Sunday and another SacAnime Swap Meet on Jan. 1-3, Deas spoke of how much these events mean to everyone.

“For many of these vendors, this is their livelihood and I know they are grateful to be out here,” Deas said. “This is a chance to safely come together and enjoy each other. This is a huge thing for people who love coming to comic-cons and the people who sell here.”
